It is the beginning of a new year and a new decade, and with this comes Pantone’s annual color forecast for the upcoming year - Turquoise. I myself am very pleased and excited about this choice. Turquoise is an interesting color in that it has both warm and cool undertones, so it doesn’t have the cold feeling that most blue colors do. In fact, in many cultures Turquoise “is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky.

Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®.

Turquoise pairs well with all other colors in the spectrum, adding a splash of vibrancy to an otherwise neutral palette, complementing reds and pinks, and creating trendy and dynamic pairings with blues, yellows, and greens. Perhaps turquoise will give us the escape we’ve all been craving.
